The Benefits of Our Laboratory Testing
The Benefits of Our Laboratory Testing
Scientific testing of diamonds and bullion offers several advantages, particularly in verifying authenticity, ensuring market value, and mitigating risks in high-value transactions.
Objectivity and Transparency: Scientific testing eliminates subjective biases by relying on precise, quantifiable data. This transparency ensures that every piece meets industry standards, providing certainty for both buyers and sellers.
Authenticity Verification: Counterfeiting and misrepresentation are common concerns in the precious metals and diamond markets. Our testing process confirms gold purity, detects plating or fraudulent alloys, and verifies diamond authenticity, including whether a stone is earth-mined or lab-grown.
Trust in Transactions: In wholesale or private transactions, independent verification strengthens confidence, reducing uncertainty and ensuring all parties have full assurance of the asset’s legitimacy.
Legal Protection: Certified testing provides documentation that can be used to safeguard both parties in case of future disputes. It also aligns with regulatory requirements for the sale and trade of precious metals and diamonds.
Increased Market Value: Verified assets often command higher prices and faster sales. Buyers are more willing to invest when independent testing confirms authenticity and quality.
Risk Mitigation: Scientific verification protects against fraud, counterfeit materials, or financial loss, ensuring secure transactions at every level.
In essence, scientific testing instills confidence, enhances transparency, and creates a foundation of trust, particularly in an industry where authenticity is paramount.
Computer Assisted UV Fluorescence
Computer Assisted
UV Fluorescence
Ultraviolet fluorescence testing is an integral part of our diamond verification process. This non-invasive method exposes diamonds and simulants to controlled ultraviolet wavelengths, allowing us to observe fluorescence reactions that are often diagnostic of a stone’s growth pattern. While not all diamonds exhibit fluorescence, natural diamonds, lab-grown diamonds, and simulants such as cubic zirconia or moissanite frequently present distinct fluorescence behaviors that can assist in identification.
Lab-grown diamonds produced through Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) and High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT) methods may display characteristic fluorescence patterns, intensities, or responses that differ from those typically seen in natural diamonds. Likewise, common simulants exhibit highly recognizable reactions under UV exposure, allowing rapid separation of non-diamond materials even within mixed parcels.
Our ultraviolet fluorescence testing equipment is capable of evaluating both loose stones and mounted jewelry, accommodating a wide range of stone sizes, shapes, and settings. This flexibility allows us to conduct high-volume evaluations efficiently while preserving the integrity of each piece under review. The process is entirely non-destructive, requiring no modification or preparation of the stone.
UV fluorescence results serve as a valuable component within our multi-layered verification protocols. Combined with thermal conductivity testing, electrical analysis, density evaluation, and visual examination, ultraviolet fluorescence contributes to the comprehensive authentication standards that define Judith Capital’s laboratory. Every diamond submitted for evaluation is subjected to a systematic process that eliminates uncertainty and delivers verified results with the highest degree of confidence.
Unparalleled XRF Technology
Unparalleled
XRF Technology
We don’t settle for standard. Our X-ray fluorescence (XRF) machine is configured with exclusive threshold parameters, a rare enhancement provided directly by the manufacturer, SciAps. This upgrade boosts the machine’s sensitivity to trace elements by 1000%, enabling us to detect even the smallest impurities or alterations in precious metals. Additionally, our configuration offers increased sensitivity to tungsten, a key feature for identifying counterfeit gold. This level of precision is rarely seen outside of specialized laboratories.
Our XRF machine is equipped with a silicon drift detector (SDD), which offers significant advantages over the more common Si PIN detectors found in standard XRF machines. The SDD allows for much faster data collection and enhanced resolution. This results in more precise readings, ensuring the highest level of reliability for determining the purity and authenticity of precious metals. The superior speed and resolution of the SDD provide faster, more accurate results than Si PIN detectors.
What further sets our XRF machine apart is its rhodium anode, a superior feature compared to the more commonly used silver or tungsten anodes in typical XRF machines. The rhodium anode enhances the machine’s performance, offering clearer, more accurate readings across a wider range of materials.
These unique modifications ensure that our XRF testing capabilities are unmatched in accuracy and sensitivity. This elite technology is critical in verifying the purity and composition of investment-grade bullion, ensuring that our clients receive assets of confirmed authenticity. Every bullion sample undergoes a rigorous testing process to detect any anomalies, trace elements, or inconsistencies, delivering absolute confidence in the integrity of each piece.
At Judith Capital, we’ve taken XRF technology to a level few can match, delivering results with a degree of precision that exceeds the industry standard.

Why We Don’t Use Acid Testing
Why We Don’t Use
Acid Testing
We are committed to the most accurate, safe, and professional testing methods while ensuring the integrity of your valuables remains intact. Unlike many retail jewelers who rely on outdated and destructive techniques like acid testing, we utilize state-of-the-art, non-invasive technology to deliver precise results.
Acid testing, a traditional method for assessing gold purity, requires filing into the metal and applying harsh chemicals, which can permanently damage jewelry or bullion. Beyond its destructive nature, acid testing is also imprecise, offering only broad categorizations such as 14kt, 18kt, or 24kt. In contrast, we employ advanced diagnostic tools, including X-ray fluorescence (XRF), temperature-compensated density testing, electrical conductivity analysis, and ultrasonic testing, to provide highly accurate, non-destructive verification of gold, silver, and platinum.
Our cutting-edge XRF machine delivers a level of detail far beyond traditional acid tests, revealing the precise elemental composition of each item. Combined with electrical and ultrasonic testing, our process ensures the detection of counterfeit or plated materials without filing, toxic chemicals, or unnecessary risk.
Choosing Judith Capital means selecting the most advanced, professional testing available, trusted by industry professionals worldwide. Our modern, non-invasive methods provide superior accuracy and peace of mind, ensuring you never have to compromise the integrity of your valuables to verify their authenticity.
Material Testing vs Brand Authentication
Material Testing
vs Brand Authentication
Our priority is ensuring that the materials in your diamonds and bullion are exactly as represented. Using cutting-edge scientific methods, including X-ray fluorescence (XRF), ultraviolet fluorescence, electrical testing, and density measurement, we accurately determine the composition of your items. This process verifies the purity and authenticity of materials such as gold, silver, platinum, and diamonds.
While our testing rigorously confirms material authenticity, we do not provide brand authentication for name-brand pieces. Counterfeit items are often made from lower-quality or plated materials, and our testing can frequently detect discrepancies. However, verifying the materials alone does not guarantee brand authenticity.
Judith Capital applies these advanced verification methods to every bullion product we handle, ensuring that gold and other precious metals meet the highest industry standards. Our meticulous approach guarantees confidence in bullion transactions, safeguarding against counterfeits and misrepresented alloys.
